As we know, Noble gases are very stable and do not easily react with other elements to form compounds. In fact, helium and neon have not been known to form any compound!
That means, for every other element or atom, it needs to bond with other elements or compounds for it to be stable. The way atoms become stable is to achieve a full outer (valence) electron shell by giving up electrons or taking electrons.
